When God Says Write: The Heart Behind the Book

I had already stepped into the unknown by following God’s call to start a speaking ministry. For months I worked diligently on networking, building a website, preparing topics for talks, and simply learning as I went. More than once I told friends, “I feel like I covered my eyes and stepped off a cliff.” Yet even in the uncertainty, I felt a deep peace knowing I was walking in God’s will.

I didn’t expect it to be more than teaching and speaking, that was enough! But God. Just as I was getting comfortable, He threw another log on the fire.

I was invited to speak at a women’s conference with the theme “Abide.” My assigned topic was “Abide in the Word.” As I prayed and prepared, I began outlining ideas for my talk. That’s when I sensed the Holy Spirit whispering, “Write it down.”

So I did.

And the more I wrote, the more ideas flowed. Still, that gentle prompting came: “Keep writing.” Soon I realized I had far more than I could ever use for a thirty-minute message.

I showed the first pages to my husband, Shane. He asked, “What’s this for?" Without hesitation I answered, “I’m not sure. I think…I’m writing a book.”

And here we are. I wrote a book.

Something I never imagined myself doing. But when God gives you a word and tells you to write it down, what else can you do but obey?

This journey has been a new adventure in faith for me...walking in obedience even when it feels far outside my comfort zone. That’s often where God leads us, because it’s in those places of stretching that our faith and trust truly grow.

Where is God leading you? Have you sensed a call you’ve been hesitant to follow, maybe because it feels uncomfortable or even scary? I want to encourage you today: step out in faith. Trust Him. His way will always lead to blessings.

God said write. So, I wrote.

Hebrews 11:8 (NIV) – “By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.”

What step of faith is God asking you to take today, even if it feels outside your comfort zone? I’d love to hear your thoughts—feel free to share in the comments below!
